How can we familiarize our child with the new situation?
Here at Zauber-Stern Nursery your child’s settling-in period is aligned exactly with his or her individual needs. In other words, we adjust each step of the settling-in process to your child, as well as to your own well-being.
1. Stage:
The child pays a (1 hour) visit to the group together with their parent or legal guardian. The child can move about freely within the group and discover whatever they want. The group leader will gather important information on the child and explain the daily nursery routine to the parents or legal guardian.
2. Stage:
At this stage, the child’s parents keep in the background, just observing. The parents accompany their child to the group and briefly stay there (approx. 30 minutes). The carer responsible for the group includes the child in a game. The parents then say goodbye to the child and briefly leave the room or wait in the cloakroom (approx. 30 minutes), to find out if and to what extent the child has already developed basic trust.
3. Stage:
At this stage, which extends over approx. five days, the parents do not accompany their child farther than to the cloakroom. The child’s presence is gradually increased from one hour to four hours. Over these five days, the child will be able to experience everything that makes up a regular day at nursery. This stage is very important for the child. The child learns to say goodbye to his or her parents when dropped off at the nursery, and also learns that when his or her parents return in the evening will be the time for the child to go home.
4. Stage:
This stage concludes the settling-in period; it also marks the first time the child will stay at the nursery for an entire trial day (approx. 6 hours). The child now knows that he or she is on his or her own at the nursery and will have a great time, until being picked up by his or her parents in the evening .
What is the differnce between a nursery and a nanny or a babysitter?
